Choosing a sofa for a small space

Mind the depth as well as the width. In a small room, a shallow sofa leaves more floor space than a narrow one. Low backs, slim arms and raised legs also make a sofa look lighter.

Make it work twice. A compact sleeper sofa turns a studio or office into a guest room, and a modular sofa can grow if you move somewhere bigger.
